You can say that your CGPA is the average of your grades and the weights. These weights are based on your credits, and credits are based on your performance.
How to calculate CGPA?
Here are some simple steps to calculate CGPA. Let’s discuss them one by one.
Step 1: Identify Grade Points for Each Subject
Each subject has their own grade point as per their marks
Marks (%) | Grade | Grade Point |
80-100 | O | 10 |
70-79 | A+ | 9 |
60-69 | A | 8 |
55-59 | B+ | 7 |
50-54 | B | 6 |
45-49 | C | 5 |
40-44 | D | 4 |
Below 40 | F | 0 (Fail) |
Step 2: Multiply Grade Point with Subject credit
Formula: Each Subject Credit × Grade Point = Credit Points
Let’s assume you have following grades:
- Subject 1 has 3 Credits and A+Grades which means 9 points → 3 × 9 = 27
- Subject 2 has 4 Credits and Grade A which means 8 points → 4 × 8 = 32
And so on for all subjects.
Step 3: sum up Credit Points and Total Credits
For example if you have 27 and 58 credit points and 3 ,4 credits.
Add: Credit Points : 27+ 32 = 58 and Credits: 3+4 = 7
Step 4: Calculate SGPI for each semester
Formula for SGPI = Total Credit Points ÷ Total Credits
For Examples: If you have 124 Credit Points and 16 Credits:
SGPI = 124 / 16 = 7.75
Step 5: Calculate CGPA
Once you got SGPI for each semesters add them all and then divide by number of semester or you can use below mentioned formula
CGPA = (SGPI1 + SGPI2 + … + SGPIn) ÷ n
